Freyja Theaker

Buddhism first illuminated the understanding that all reality is one—a singular principle or law, both imperceptible and manifest. This resonated intuitively and rationally, aligning with my layperson’s grasp of physics: everything in its objective form arises from the same underlying essence.

Non-duality later revealed that awareness itself is an intrinsic quality of this reality, not merely a product of the material brain, as I’d once assumed. Having already intuited this unity, I explored my awareness deeply. One day, something shifted profoundly: I experienced myself as this boundless reality, the very fabric of all I perceived. Any sense of a separate, bounded self dissolved entirely. In its place arose overwhelming safety, love, and joy—a recognition that every sight, sound, and sensation was a radiant expression of the same reality I am.

Through the further teaching of "not knowing", and experiential misidentification with bodily sensation I learned to quieten the mind’s belief in separation, dissolving the illusion of a self confined to body or thought. I came to view this aware beingness as a “family”: thoughts and bodily sensations are its children, while conscious awareness is the nurturing parent. By abiding as this loving presence, thoughts and feelings naturally harmonise into constructive, comfortable states. This accorded with my understanding as a psychotherapist of the healthy functioning of mind and body to meet its needs.

This journey is explored in my book Naturally Being and through The Universal Family website. I have spent 15 years as a Buddhist leader, 12 years as a Human Givens psychotherapist, 10 years as a social entrepreneur working with leading women such as Dame Anita Roddick and Dr Hazel Henderson, and a decade in corporate finance at the Bank of New York and City of London.

Ricardo Hidalgo

Teacher of Truth, which cannot be taught. It can only be seen or experienced and is, in fact, all we ever do experience, but we overlook it by getting lost in what we imagine. I point past what is imagined to the Truth from where all experience (thoughts, images, sensations and perceptions) comes. Specialities: Cultural diversity; youth; depression and anxiety.

Peter Challen

Born in London in 1931, I spent my early childhood years in Western Australia before returning to London in 1938, just as war broke out. I attended Chigwell School in Essex and subsequently fulfilled my National Army Service, which sparked a curiosity that led me to explore employment in the steel and coal industries. This curiosity brought me under the mentorship of Rev. Dr. JAT Robinson, which paved the way for my education at Clare College, Cambridge, where I earned my MA.

My theological journey continued at Westcott House Theological College and later William Temple College, focusing on chaplaincy. I was ordained in 1958, began my curacy in Goole, West Yorkshire, and served as Rector of Holy Trinity, Dalton, Rotherham. In 1967, I became the Senior Chaplain for the South London Industrial Mission, leading efforts to make chaplaincy ecumenical while serving as Rector of Christ Church, Southwark, up to 1996.

I continued my chaplaincy work in central London until 2016, eventually moving to a supported housing community in Surrey, where I engaged in online outreach and mentoring. I hold the titles of Canon Emeritus of Southwark Diocese, Sloan Fellow of London Business School, and Free Citizen of the Borough of Suffolk. My journey reflects a commitment to ecumenical chaplaincy, global outreach, and fostering faith amid societal challenges.

I have authored several works, including unpublished reflections and books: ‘Personal Aspirations and Positional Arrogance’ unpublished reflections on the Sloan Senior Management Programme - 1970 - student of the year, tho' bottom of the skill table!!‘I dreamt of Magnanimity’ – a cathedral for the Nation - a Sophia Hub - 15 contributors. ‘Windows on the World of Work’ was edited during the 1980s. ’The Voice of Listening’ in 2023, pseudonym of GARFOSS. ‘Furthering Faith in a Failing Society’ in 2024 GARFOSS. ‘An Atlas of Incarnation’ 2025 is presently under editorial processing - consisting of some 50 verbal images from a wide range of thought, all tending towards the universal family.
